Col. Cornett was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the Transportation Corps from the Army ROTC program at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas.

EDUCATION

Col. Cornett has earned a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and strategic communications from the University of Kansas.

Col. Aaron M. Cornett assumed command of the Crane Army Ammunition Activity on July 17, 2025. CAAA safely receives, inspects, stores, ships, renovates, demilitarizes, and manufactures conventional ammunition, missiles, and related components to support Army and Joint Force readiness.

In August 2001, Cornett was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the Transportation Corps from the Army ROTC program at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas.

Col. Cornett has earned a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and strategic communications from the University of Kansas.

Cornett’s previous assignments include Platoon Leader, 594th Transportation Company, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Assistant S3, 106th Transportation Battalion, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Commander, 613th Movement Control Detachment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Assistant Professor, Military Science, University of Kansas; Commander, Group Service Support Company and Group S4, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Carson, Colorado; Observer/Coach/Trainer, U.S. Army Mission Command Training Program and Instructor, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Instructor and Syndicate Guiding Officer, Baltic Defense College, Tartu, Estonia; Commander, 53rd Transportation Battalion (Movement Control), Joint Base Langley-Eustis (Virginia) and Joint Base Lewis-McChord (Washington); Commander, 6th Battalion, 2nd Security Force Assistance Brigade, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Col. Cornett has four deployments to Iraq and in his most recent one, he was the Deputy for Security Assistance in the Office of Security Cooperation - Iraq at the U.S. Embassy Baghdad. He also has a deployment to Poland in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve and the European Deterrence Initiative.

Col. Cornett’s military education includes Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, the Pathfinder Course, Air Assault School, Airborne School, Command and General Staff College and U.S. Army War College.

His awards and achievements include the Bronze Star Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Meritorious Service Medal (6 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (4 Oak Leaf Clusters), and the Army Achievement Medal (4 Oak Leaf Clusters).
